Women like Bad Boys, apparently.
Dennis Rodman of 1980s “Bad Boys” Pistons fame and subsequent Chicago Bulls championship legend has come under the public microscope recently due to his story being told in ESPN’s “The Last Dance.” Two episodes of the docuseries focused on Rodman’s on-the-court prowess and off-the-court antics that have reinvigorated interest in Rodman’s aptitude on the boards — both those on a court and on a bedframe.
Ah, yes, the many relationships of “The Worm” have been publicly dissected and have confused many over the years. The heart wants what the heart wants, folks, and that’s that.
Still, Rodman’s legacy on the back pages of newspapers and Page Six of tabloids have reminded the public of his extensive high-profile dating life. Some rumors debunked here, some amplified and verified, here’s who Rodman has been paired with through the years:
Years: c. 1987 to 1992
Rodman married his first wife, Annie Bakes, in September of 1991. The two had met in a club in the late ’80s and had been together roughly five years before tying the knot.
By December of that 1992, the marriage had deteriorated, and their divorce was finalized in 1993. With Bakes, Rodman had his first child, Alexis, born in 1988.
Years: c. 1995
While the details of the power duo’s relationship were murky, it was confirmed by the “Queen of Pop” that she and Rodman had a two-month fling in 1995 during Rodman’s time with the Spurs. Per ESPN’s “The Last Dance,” Madonna felt Rodman was “cute,” and some feel Madonna taught Rodman to be her own man.
Rodman has never been one to shy away from most things, with his fling with Madonna at the forefront. Rodman has been upfront in saying he didn’t much care for the singer or her music, and even went as far to say as Madonna was desperate to have a child with him, at one point offering $20 million to carry Rodman’s child.
A shame, because “RodMadonna” is a pretty decent couple name.
Years: c. 1996
The hubbub surrounding the singer and the hoops star came to prominence in 1996, when Rodman and Braxton were spotted together at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards. But it might be unfair to file this under “relationship,” considering the singer recently denied the pair were an official item.
Years: 1998 to 1999
Arguably most famous of the Rodman relationships, Rodman’s stint with the famed model and actress centered around alcohol, Las Vegas and, apparently, copious amounts of sex. The pair’s relationship was detailed in Episode 4 of ESPN’s “The Last Dance,” which chronicles the Jordan-era Chicago Bulls dynasty of the ’90s.
The documentary detailed a steamy weekend getaway in Sin City that turned into an unapproved, lengthy absence from the 1997-1998 Bulls, resulting in Michael Jordan breaking up the party when he showed up at Rodman and Electra’s hotel room.
On the outside looking in, relationship between the two seemed to be more saccharine than it was true love, as Electra detailed the rampant alcohol and, erm, relations between the two during the time.
“It was definitely an occupational hazard to be Dennis’ girlfriend,” Electra said during “The Last Dance.” “He was wild.”
Famously, in November of 1998, Rodman and Electra married in Las Vegas. In March 1999, Electra filed for divorce, ending an “era.” Of some sort.
Years: 1999 to 2012
Rodman met Moyer in 1999 and the two were married in 2003, on Rodman’s 42nd birthday. Moyer is the mother of two of Rodman’s three children, Dennis Jr. and Trinity.
Moyer filed for divorce in 2004, and after years of trying to reconcile, the divorce was finalized in 2012.
