Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa gifted his mother one heck of a Mother’s Day gift on Sunday.
Tagovailoa posted a video to his Twitter account with the caption, “Happy Mother’s Day to a more than deserving Mother. I love you mom.” The clip shows his entire family walking out of their home to a black Cadillac Escalade in the front lawn. Diane Tagovailoa, realizing it was a gift to her, said, “This is mine?”
“This is yours,” Tua Tagovailoa confirmed.
Tua Tagovailoa, the No. 5 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft, was also Miami’s first selection. Though he hasn’t been signed to a deal yet, his rookie scale wage will see him paid $30.3 million over four years with a $19.6 million signing bonus. He also has sponsorships from Muscle Milk, Bose and Adidas.
It’s worth noting that Tagovailoa has a strong family dynamic with his parents, two sisters and brother Taulia — evidenced by him saying, “I know you wanted something that would be able to carry everyone.” That is a part of his Samoan heritage and religious upbringing, as is the tenet that one’s parents must be honored and respected.
It seems Tagovailoa, who will wear No. 1 in Miami, still knows to put first things first, even as he becomes more independent in the NFL.
